Carousel Ranch's Heart of the West exceeds expectations


 The Heart of the West fundraiser for Carousel Ranch raised more than $300,000 and exceeded expectations of the event organizers.

The auction and horse riding exhibition drew thousands of viewers from all over the country. It was the first time Carousel Ranch used a remote event and online interaction for the organization's biggest fundraiser. It was broadcast on YouTube and the auction was online. Denise Redmond, the executive director of Carousel Ranch, said incorporating an online and virtual aspects to the fundraiser is something to include moving forward.

Pandemic forces NYU drama grad to change roles

 Bre Tomey was ready to start touring with a Shakespeare company in June. The New York University drama graduate landed an acting job with a theater company that she admired and pursued for almost a year. But a day before she was supposed to move from New York to Virginia to start working for the theater company, the tour was canceled. Coronavirus was spreading across the country and the world. She had to change plans and decided to move home to Santa Clarita and start a program to help students pursue careers in the arts. She and her friends are turning a challenging time in a pandemic to support students who share a passion for drama and music.
